10 élèves français graveurs et sculpteurs des lycées jurassiens Ferdinand Fillod : les arts du métal de Saint-Amour et Pierre Vernotte : les arts du bois de Moirand en Montagne ont terminé leur création en médaille pour être le 12 février 2016 au British Museum, à Londres pour le 23ème concours international « Student Medal Project ».

Gotlib et sa coccinelle
Cette médaille sur Gotlib est un hommage à ce fameux dessinateur de bande-dessinées et sa coccinelle toujours aussi fidèle. Marcel Gottlieb, dit Gotlib né le 14 juillet 1934 à Paris. Auteur de bande dessinée français. Il est surtout connu pour ses histoires humoristiques (Gai-Luron, Les Dingodossiers, La Rubrique-à-brac) et les nombreuses pages qu’il a publiées dans deux importants mensuels qu’il a créés dans les années 1970 qui sont L’Écho des Savanes et Fluïde Glacial.
Le style de Gotlib est, en ce qui concerne le dessin, particulièrement dépouillé, même si ses personnages sont d’une grande complexité. Ainsi, on trouve sur ses planches peu de décors.
Cette absence de décors est à l’origine de cette fameuse coccinelle qui a pour rôle de combler les trous, de remplir les cases. La coccinelle joue également le rôle d’une sorte de chœur antique qui vient contredire ce qui est raconté dans la case où elle-même se trouve.
Mes derniers mots serraient que Gotlib reste un maître de l’humour noir, qui lui permet d’aborder des thèmes qui lui sont chers, parfois de manière satirique envers lui-même, jetant le discrédit sur son propre humour qu’il désigne avec ironie « fin et sophistiqué » ou « glacé et sophistiqué ».

«All the world’s a stage ».
My inspiration comes from a text of shakespeare Called « As You Like It » acte II, scène 7. For me Life is not always serious : we can choose our destiny. We can be the actors and we can master our life. We can hide our emotions or choose to express ourselves. Even if we know that it will end with our death… We must live our life ; chosen or not … it is our Destiny !
Of course the concept that the earth is like a big stage is in itself a striking metaphor, The earth is pictured as a theater stage on which various characters appear for a short while and then empties out to make way for a new production. Over the centuries there have been many productions, and there will be many more in in the future.
Since these productions are only make-believe, it doesn’t really matter which role a person plays. 5 He can be a king or a jester. Everything in life is only make-believe.

« Une rose pour symboliser le vie. »
« A Rose »
The theme I have chosen for my medal is « The rose » because it represents Life for me. In fact just like a flower , we rise , grow and fade one day. A Rose is a beautiull plant and it is the way I want to see « life » , beautifully …
The front of my medal represents a blossomed rose ; symbal of a fulfilling life. On the reverse the rose is completely faded so death appears . Thorns do exist and resist.
Moreover the rose was sacred to a number of goddesses. It is the national flower of England and in 1986 it was named the floral emblem of the United States.
Everywhere in the world , a red rose ( often held in a hand) is a symbol of socialism or, more notably, social democracy. It is used too as a symbol of Love and compassion in many countries (USA, England, Spain, France and Italy ).
For all thes reasons I engrave a Rose …

« Vision or illusion »
My medal represents a very philosophical theme : » The view of the World ». Indeed, our perception is always influenced by the words … ( For example ; we often say « This is a boat or this a plate … )
Fortunately enough , the magic of our imagination allows us to change or mofify the vision ( so a spoon could be a space shuttle , the water in a bath could the unleashed sea…). This gift does really exist … and I think that children really have this perception of seeing life like a fantasy but it disappears when you grow up .
Maintaining this vision of life is for me very important ; it is a way to remain « a child » and to « live in a fantastic world »… It is a sort of journey that never ends .
I love to see the world I have chosen to live in , I mean , a « sweet » one that allows me to have my perception of the things around me . I love discovering things the way I want them to be.
I would like to open my mind and develop my vision of life. My medal is a complete « translation » of my ideas. On the front of my medal , you can discover a scenery of Paris seen by an adult and on the reverse the same place seen by a child.
My final message is « whatever you are told to see , let your imagination go … let be « illusionist » ».

« Alice in Wonderland »
I have created and engraved a medal representing « Alive in Wonderland ». The front of it represents Alice with a pensive expression saying : « I am dreaming of a marvellous world » and on the reverse there are buildings and a bank on fire with the following words « MONEY does CREATE happiness ».
This medal means that Human beings make war for money. They can not live for their own… By their own means… They are jealous , possessive and destructive . They want to be more and more powerful , master the Universe and control the whole World.

I have chosen this theme to show the function and the various complex pieces of a watch-making movement with manual rewinding.
The front of the medal represents a dial with Roman numbers that mentions the beginning of the numbering and of the Breguet style the one who was one of best watchmakers of the world .
On the reverse there are various wheels…

« The abandonment »…
I want to represent the abandonment because it is something that affects me a lot and that is common and usual for many people .
The front of my medal there are three daily scenes with a cat just like on a comic strips page. We can see that the pet is well-fed , has a cosy place to live , feels happy in his cat life.
On the reverse I engrave a cat face ; it is sad , injured and all wet because of the rain…
In the background we can see rainy drops , a pavement and a part of a ver old building.
I made this medal in homage to all the animals that are ill-treated…
